“The practice of hospitality is central to the Christian life and the practice of public worship. Among other practices, faithful Christian living is fundamentally about looking for ways to offer the peace of Christ to all fellow pilgrims, to embrace the stranger and orphan, to minister to the deepest needs of each other’s souls. Faithful Christian worship is, at its core, a place where the practice of hospitality should flourish. This practice is first of all God’s practice, as God welcomes us to the waters of baptism, the feast of the Lord’s Supper, the nourishment of the Word, and the encouragement of the assembly. And then hospitality becomes our practice, as we greet each other in Jesus’ name, pray for each other, respond together to the Word, and extend the feasting of the table into lives of joyful and obedient Christian service.”
--John Witvliet, The Biblical Psalms in Christian Worship, p. 133
A third important ministry under the umbrella of worship is the Welcome Team. The special skill required is a smile. The goals of the Welcome Team are to help those who come onto our campus to feel welcome and create an environment that is conducive to worshiping the Lord. The Welcome Team is the “spark plug” that can ignite the entire church family to a spirit of hospitality.
